When is an interpreter needed?
An interpreter is needed when people who speak different languages are present. For the deaf population this language is Sign Language.
Protected under “The Americans with Disabilities Act” (ADA), equal access must be provided in public events, public and government offices, hospitals, doctors' offices, lawyers, real estate, educational institutions, schools and the list goes on. So it can be said that you need an interpreter when a Deaf person is present or when the broadcast of the event is public and a Deaf person may be present.
When looking for a sign language interpreter, consider how the communicates.
Especially when we talk about Sign Language, interpreting is much more than just putting a word with a sign. Skilled Sign Language interpreters will use both your facial expressions and body language to convey the full message. This makes interpretation process fatiguing. Therefore, the time factor plays an important role in knowing how many interpreters you will need. Other factors such as: How many people will be participating? What industry is being represented? Legal, medical engineering, federal/state government etc. If you need highly technical or specialized language? They are fundamental.
